FC Wisconsin Welcomes Coach Scott Surprise

FC Wisconsin Welcomes Coach Scott Surprise

FC Wisconsin is excited to announce its newest coach in the FC Family. Scott Surprise joins our FC Wisconsin West Program's coaching staff this spring and will help lead our U11 and older teams in this region.

Scott has more than 37 years of coaching experience: 15 years at the high school level, 30 years of collegiate coaching, including 11 seasons and counting at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater men's soccer program, and 23 years as an Olympic Development Coach. He is a two-time Wisconsin High School Coach of the Year Honoree. In 2016, Scott was also inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Association Hall of Fame.

In addition to coaching at UW-Whitewater, most recently, Scott was the Director of Coaching at Burlington United Soccer Club for the past five years and the Croatian Eagles S.C. for 23 years prior that. Scott's playing background includes Army, indoor professional soccer, and PDL in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Scott is also part owner of the USL-2 professional franchise RKC Third Coast based in Racine.

“The success and growing numbers in our West Program in this first year has been staggering and a testament to all the work that Dustin Lingle, our West Director, and his coaching staff have given to the program. With this growth, it is essential that we continue to bring good coaches, and more importantly good people, into our FC Family as part of our staff. The hiring of Scott to help lead our expanding West Program is a huge coup for the club. Over many years, Scott has shown himself to be a great developer of players and is extremely well thought of within the Wisconsin soccer community (hence his place in the Wisconsin Hall of Fame). His positivity, enthusiasm, and drive to help players improve and enjoy the game will be a massive asset to FC Wisconsin. Scott has been hugely successful in the club game, at the high school level, and within the college game for more than 35 years. As we continue to grow as a club, and continue to offer additional playing platforms and pathways, it is imperative that we continue to add quality coaches to our coaching staff. We are excited to add Scott to our staff and welcome him to the FC Family,” said Co-Director Ben Shepherd

The FC Wisconsin West Program was established this year to provide a long-term, athlete development-focused environment to help players progress within the game in the west region. The FC Wisconsin West Program has already improved the daily environment for all aspiring players in the region, while continuing to raise the bar in developing players to reach their full potential.

The FC Wisconsin West Program currently has boys’ teams ages U7-U12 and provides players in the west region with the opportunity to train, compete, and be a part of the FC Wisconsin Family, while still being able to train and play within their respective region.

Surprise shares: “FC Wisconsin isn’t only known as one of the top clubs in the state, it is recognized nationwide as one of the preeminent clubs in player development. From the outside looking in, I always knew there was something different at FC. I would like to thank Ben, Billy, and Dustin for the opportunity and the trust in me to join the coaching staff of FC Wisconsin. I look forward to the challenge and adding to the tremendous legacy of excellence in the club. From top to bottom, the organization is designed around a consistent, clear, player development pathway. Not only does the culture help develop players, it also helps develop young people, which is so important.”

Welcome to the coaching staff and the FC Family, Scott!
