Carroll University Head Coach Andy Kohel Joins FC Wisconsin Coaching Staff

FC Wisconsin is thrilled to announce the hiring of current Carroll University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Andy Kohel who will immediately assist all teams within the ECNL program.

Newly appointed to lead the Pioneers this January, Kohel joins the FC Wisconsin staff having spent the last year as Head Coach of the St. Croix Legends USL 2 team in Stillwater, Minnesota. Prior to his time with the Legends, Kohel served as the Head Men's Coach at Concordia University in Moorhead, Minnesota. He also served as the Head Coach at Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado, where he helped transition the program from the NAIA to one that competes in NCAA Division III. Kohel's resume also includes serving as Head Coach for the Colorado Rush Soccer Club in Littleton, Colorado who competed in the United States Developmental Academy.

Kohel served as an Assistant Coach at both Colorado College and his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. During that eight year span, Kohel helped his teams compile an 89-28-20 record. A USSF 'A' License holder, he has helped mentor six players to All-American status, while guiding five to Scholar All-American honors.

“Andy will be an exceptional hire for FC Wisconsin. We are excited about the impact that he will have within our coaching staff. Andy has been successful at the USL 2 level, in various roles within the youth game across the country, and has seen success at the collegiate level. He has shown his ability to develop players to be successful not only in the college and club levels, but also to progress to the professional ranks. Andy has a wealth of experience and a huge passion and commitment to developing players. For us to be able to entice a coach with the background that he has will greatly impact so many players within our club. The knowledge, experience, and playing background that he brings will continue to help our players to play at the highest levels possible,” said Co-Director of Coaching Ben Shepherd.

Kohel earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in History from UW-Oshkosh, where he was part of the Titans' 2011 NCAA Division-III Final Four team. In his four years there, Kohel helped the team register an overall record of 52-16-11.

“I am delighted to join FC Wisconsin's ECNL coaching staff. The club's reputation speaks for itself, as they're consistently among the top percentile of clubs in the state to develop and send youth players to college programs nationwide and compete for hardware on the field. Even while coaching in different parts of the country, I have always been aware of FC Wisconsin's excellent reputation in developing players for the next level. As a competitor, I want nothing more than an opportunity to contribute to a winning team, and FC Wisconsin certainly allows me to do just that. I want to thank Ben Shepherd and Billy Solberg for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to working with the players and coaches,” said Kohel.

“With the club now playing in so many leagues which are hugely competitive, it was important to continue to add to our coaching staff so that we can maintain our collaborative coaching model for all programs within the club. Adding Andy to our staff is a great addition to FC Wisconsin. Andy is the perfect fit for our staff and players. With nine coaches who have either coached, or are currently coaching within the college game, there is more than 55 years of college coaching experience within our club. We can’t wait for him to get started! Welcome to the FC Wisconsin Family,” added Co-Director of Coaching Billy Solberg.
