Mission Accomplished – Highway Adopted!

As part of our ongoing commitment to serve the community, FC Wisconsin adopted Hwy. 145 between Hwy. Q and Hwy.167 for clean-up, a total of 2.2 miles. Hwy. 145 is Fond du Lac Avenue coming to the FC fields from each direction. Our sponsorship will be highlighted by the state Adopt-A-Highway program with a sign on each end of the segment.

On Sunday, June 12 at 8 a.m., 17 adult volunteers gathered at the fields to receive instructions on equipment and supplies. Teams of two or three were assigned .4-mile segments to complete, taking about 1 ½ hours to complete their task. The segment had not been sponsored for several years, so much trash had accumulated. The result was 17 fifty-gallon bags gathered by FC volunteers over the 2.2 miles of our adopted segment.

Bill and Margaret Solberg (Billy Solberg’s parents) and Coach Neil Tolson coordinated the event and also took on a segment of the highway themselves, returning in time to thank team members for their work. The volunteers appreciated the service opportunity. One said, “Who knew that picking up litter could actually be interesting?” Another volunteer, Neil’s wife Amy, said she secretly thought they looked “trendy” in their neon vests. The club will need to do another clean-up in the fall and teams will be asked to sponsor that event.

Thanks again to all the volunteers for piloting this community service!
