FC Wisconsin Alumni Start Freshman College Campaign

8.26.14 --For Immediate Release:  Former FC Wisconsin players make immediate impact in their first Collegiate Pre-Season at the NCAA Division I, II, II and NAIA levels.

Twenty Four former FC Wisconsin players have started their freshman College soccer careers this month as they enter their pre-season campaigns. FC Wisconsin had 11 US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) players make college commitments for this season, 7 of whom went to NCAA Division I institutions, as well as having 13 players from its U18 NPL/WDA team make commitments to play in college.

The club has more players with college commitments that any other in the state of Wisconsin, making us extremely proud. We are also excited to report that many of our former players are already starting to make immediate impacts within their respective programs.

Marcus McCrary has started both exhibition games for Ohio State University, and in his first College outing scored both goals in their 2-1 win over Big East contender, West Virginia University.

Reid Stevenson and Nick Moon have made excellent starts to their UW-Milwaukee careers starting in both of their exhibition games against Creighton University and UW-Parkside. UW-Milwaukee is ranked #1 in the Horizon League’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll after winning the Conference Championship last year and advancing to the NCAA National Tournament.

Nikola Atlija has featured in all three of the University of Wisconsin’s exhibitions games so far this pre-season, netting his first goal away at Creighton University. UW had an excellent year in 2013 and is coming off a 14-5-2 season and NCAA Tournament appearance. They are ranked 21st in the nation in the latest pre-season poll.

Evan Garcia has featured in both UW-Parkside’s exhibitions against UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee. Garcia played a part in UW-Parkside’s recent 2-2 tie with UW-Milwaukee in which another former FC Wisconsin player Ryan Shogren (sophomore) scored to give Parkside a 2-1 lead during the 2nd half.

Bobby Saskowski and Bernie Macais have played in all of Cardinal Stritch University’s exhibition games with Saskowski starting in both games; Stritch is ranked #25 in the nation at the NAIA level. Cardinal Stritch is coming off back to back CCAC Regular Season Championships and National Tournament appearances.

“We are extremely proud to have been able to help facilitate the recruitment of 24 of our players last year so they are able to continue their soccer careers within the College game. We believe that producing collegiate level players is the true measure of any clubs curriculum and development model. We wish all of our former players the best of luck this upcoming season and look forward to seeing the success that comes their way” – said USSDA Director and Co-DOC Ben Shepherd.
